Why Jerusalem Needs JBNF
Jerusalem needs JBNF as its business generator and accelerator
By Dr. Uzi Mor
The Jerusalem Business Networking Forum (JBNF), the biggest English-speaking business community in Israel, is the most effective Meetup and business community Israel has seen over the past 5 years.
What does an effective meet-up mean?
In order to answer such questions, we need to synchronize our expectations from a volunteer-based operated forum. First, we expect it to be stable. Sixty+ meetups (at the time of this writing), attended by many almost every month, demonstrates stability at its best and ability to provide an effective network. We expect it to be a place where business -oriented people can get acquainted with each other, to build and maintain their relationships, both short and long term, with the strong belief that we strengthen the business activity of small businesses in the Jerusalem area.
For its next stage, JBNF has initiated two strategic moves: to become a nonprofit limited company (already established) and to team up with the Jerusalem College of Technology (JCT) and to become its entrepreneurial club. In this way, JCT will become the hub of JBNF activity and the JBNF will provide an even larger network that will serve the needs of JCT and its students.
So who is the typical JBNFer?
A typical JBNFer is an English-speaking business-oriented person (who most often speaks Hebrew (and other languages) as well), is part of diverse age group, who lives within a radius of about 40 KM from Jerusalem (though JBNFers come from as far away as Beer Sheva, Ashkelon, Kfar Saba and Tel Aviv as well), and who has an interest in the following topics:
- Teaming up with new partners for a new venture
- Finding new customers for an existing small business
- If he/she is a new immigrant from a European or English-speaking country, they may be looking for a new position where English is needed
- He/she is eager to hear about the up-to-date technologies and new management system / networking / marketing / advertising methods in order to better survive in the fast and dynamic world we live in
- A place for a better integration between English-speakers and Israelis
It is not unusual at JBNF to hear that a technically-oriented entrepreneur found their management-oriented partner at a JBNF event, who then leads them to a marketing or advertising oriented person, who knows a lawyer that will be interested in his project etc. That is why the JBNF was founded – to help people connect. Now, after more than 5 years of operation, this is proof of its tremendous success.
As per its long term plans, JBNF is just at its beginning and is moving towards an even more exciting future.
